St James Craft Fair November 27, 2010

On a very chilly day many people turned up to the West Ealing Neighbours Craft Fair at St James Church. This was the first time that WEN has organised this event and under the experienced guidance of Martyn Clarke from St James everything went very smoothly. Thanks to all those volunteers from the Church, WEN and WEN Abundance for helping with the unseen but nevertheless essential kitchen duties! And especially to those on welcome at the entrance to the Church, feeling the full force of the cold weather.

Our Abundance stall had a steady stream of customers who very much enjoyed our signature products such as WEN chilli chutney as well as new products – our WEN Xmas jelly marmalade went down a storm! We spoke to many people about the project, caught up with some of the volunteers and also got a few new fruit locations too!

That’s pretty much it for WEN Abundance for 2010. We will be busy over the next couple of months using up all the produce we still have in freezers – mainly grapes and some plums. Once this is finished we’ll have a well deserved break until elderflowers are in season so we can start making cordial ready for Hanwell carnival next June 2011!

St James Craft Fair Saturday 27th November 10am – 4pm November 23, 2010

Final plans are in place for this year’s craft fair. I’m sure if you haven’t thought of your Xmas shopping yet you’ll find lots of gifts here to make your life a lot easier! WEN Abundance will have our stall again and this year we have pulled out all the stops to ensure we have lots of stock to sell as well as many new delicious flavours to choose from. So if you want locally produced jam/jelly/marmalade and chutney picked from the local area then come along and visit the stall – you won’t be disappointed!

Arts and Crafts Fair – St James Church, West Ealing Saturday 27th November 10am-4pm November 4, 2010

Come along to West Ealing Neighbours Arts and Crafts Fair at St James Church (at the back of Sainsbury’s in West Ealing) on Saturday 27th November from 10am to 4pm. The craft fair is now in it’s 10th year, although this is the first time WEN have taken over the organisation of it. This is a hugely popular event that is packed out with local people selling their wares to the public. The nature of the event means that coming along will make your Christmas shopping so much easier this year!

And of course West Ealing Abundance will be selling our delicious Jams and Chutneys, as well as seeking more volunteers and continuing with our fruit mapping.

Come along; you won’t be disappointed.

Making toffee apples for West Ealing Family Day on the 23rd October October 22, 2010

Come and join us outside St James Church and buy our freshly pressed apple/pear juice and pre-order jams/chutneys before everyone else gets them. They make great Xmas pressies and all from local produce too…

West Ealing Family Day Saturday 23rd October 9am – 4pm October 17, 2010

West Ealing Neighbours, local businesses and traders and the Council have joined together to put on the first ever West Ealing Family Day. Across the centre of West Ealing in Leeland Road, Melbourne Avenue and St James Avenue we will be putting on a series of events and activities for all the family. The three streets will be differently themed:

Leeland Road will have a specially extended farmers’ market with apples as a theme (it’s Apple Day on October 21st). There will be an exhibition of over 100 rare and different varieties of apple, cider tasting, apple and spoon racing and an apple juicing demonstration

Melbourne Avenue will be for food and entertainment with a stage set up for a variety of local music and dance events as well as children’s entertainment and food stalls

St James Avenue is all about what people local people are producing, whether its crafts or artworks, and will play host to the first ever street craft market in West Ealing. We will be busy making apple and pear juice all pressed from locally picked fruit and St James Church will house an art exhibition by the Brent Lodge Park Arts Collective – a collective of artists with and without learning difficulties. The Church will also open its cafe where you can put your feet up and try locally made cakes and sandwiches. There’s also kids activities in the Church including a kidzone play area, face painting and singing!

Please do come along and support us and help make this first ever Family Day a success… and, if it’s a success, maybe we can gain enough support to make it an annual event.

west ealing family day saturday 23rd october 10am – 4pm October 3, 2010

West Ealing Neighbours are working with Ealing Council and local traders to bring you a the first of what I hope will be an annual event in West Ealing. Tying in nicely with apple day on October 21st http://www.commonground.org.uk/

There will be activities on Leeland Road from 9am-1pm at the Farmers Market; dancing & music in Melbourne Avenue and through to St James Avenue a craft fair as well as West Ealing Neighbours stalls, including Abundance making and selling bottled apple juice! There will also be other activities apple related that we are currently working on so look on here to get up to date information.

In St James Church there will be a cake stall, coffees & teas and sandwiches too. I can vouch for the cakes, they are delicious and hopefully some will be apple themed too!
