To celebrate this milestone you are invited to a gathering on October 13th from 7.30pm onwards at OPEN Ealing 113 Uxbridge Road, West Ealing (opposite the fire station) W5 5TL with a glass of wine and some of our yummy Abundance produce.
This is an important time for WEN as many of our committee members now have to step down after their 5 years in office – includng the chair (David Highton) and Vice-Chair (Eric Leach) Don’t worry though they aren’t leaving WEN, just taking on different roles – we are therefore keen to talk to you about how you can get involved.
We are a small group that think we have achieved quite a lot in the 5 years we have been together. We’d like to tell you some of what we have done and what we plan to do, but just as important are your ideas about what the next 5 years might look like.
And to top it all Cheddar Deli 108 Northfields Avenue are also donating a fantastic cheese board for you to win in a raffle.
Let’s hope the sun will shine for everyone on Sunday so we all have a fabulous day.
Last chance to buy our elderflower cordial for 2011 – priced at £2.50. We are also promoting as many uses as possible for our delicious grape jelly – have it on toast, with sausages, chicken or cheese: You can even stir into gravy! £2.50 for a jar – and it will go a long way.
Come along to West Ealing Neighbours Arts and Crafts Fair at St James Church (at the back of Sainsbury’s in West Ealing) on Saturday 27th November from 10am to 4pm. The craft fair is now in it’s 10th year, although this is the first time WEN have taken over the organisation of it. This is a hugely popular event that is packed out with local people selling their wares to the public. The nature of the event means that coming along will make your Christmas shopping so much easier this year!
And of course West Ealing Abundance will be selling our delicious Jams and Chutneys, as well as seeking more volunteers and continuing with our fruit mapping.
Wow what a great day today! We sold over 100 cups of our freshly pressed apple juice and all my 50 toffee apples were sold! We had loads of volunteers chopping, pressing, straining, selling, leafleting, chatting, laughing and generally enjoying themselves! Here are some pictures of the event, I’ll post more over the next few days.
Come and join us outside St James Church and buy our freshly pressed apple/pear juice and pre-order jams/chutneys before everyone else gets them. They make great Xmas pressies and all from local produce too…
West Ealing Neighbours, local businesses and traders and the Council have joined together to put on the first ever West Ealing Family Day. Across the centre of West Ealing in Leeland Road, Melbourne Avenue and St James Avenue we will be putting on a series of events and activities for all the family. The three streets will be differently themed:
Leeland Road will have a specially extended farmers’ market with apples as a theme (it’s Apple Day on October 21st). There will be an exhibition of over 100 rare and different varieties of apple, cider tasting, apple and spoon racing and an apple juicing demonstration
Melbourne Avenue will be for food and entertainment with a stage set up for a variety of local music and dance events as well as children’s entertainment and food stalls
St James Avenue is all about what people local people are producing, whether its crafts or artworks, and will play host to the first ever street craft market in West Ealing. We will be busy making apple and pear juice all pressed from locally picked fruit and St James Church will house an art exhibition by the Brent Lodge Park Arts Collective – a collective of artists with and without learning difficulties. The Church will also open its cafe where you can put your feet up and try locally made cakes and sandwiches. There’s also kids activities in the Church including a kidzone play area, face painting and singing!
Please do come along and support us and help make this first ever Family Day a success… and, if it’s a success, maybe we can gain enough support to make it an annual event.
We all had a great day on Saturday 19th June on our joint West Ealing Neighbours and WEN Abundance stall, although Abundance hogged most of the day! We had Elderflower Cordial, jams and chutneys to sell and we pretty much sold out of everything. The main focus was our fruit mapping exercise – building up locations in the public realm of fruit trees to plot on our google map on our website to be found at this location
